What is Art? The Constant Question by KC Moore©
My definition = Art is beauty; beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Webster offers “fine art – those that appeal to the taste or sense of beauty”. Artistic expression will form words, sounds, shapes in its many manifestations of poetry, dance sculpture, paint, etc. Beauty then is, I believe what resonates with us as individuals. Sometimes we are ‘guided’ by experts and form opinions based on the words of the authority figure. I prefer to make my own choices.
I am attracted to color but if you take the color test at the link provided, we”ll see that even a scientific approach will provide variability in what we perceive.

A lot of art is simply ‘acting out’ and I am as guilty as anyone. Some art is expression of the emotions in this life, releasing the inner angst, joy, and pain, that I call therapy. Would another person call it art? “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” – Edgar Degas True that! Art should open your eyes and provide new thoughts. The skillful artist will accomplish this; they will cause conversation and expansion. We still discuss the provocation of Dali, the illumination of the impressionists, the passion of Van Gogh.
However, I conclude that like or not, it’s a reflection of the viewer.
I scored a four on the color IQ test. What did you get?
